We were very pleased to have been awarded £500 by Trafford Partnership’s Make Sale Smile initiative. These funds were used to help set up the group and for our first Community Fun Day.
Together with the Short Story Lady we held a celebration of all things Narnian. Read more about the Narnia Party here.
We have also used these funds to buy craft materials for a new Saturday Storytime aimed at under 5s. This was requested by the public as working parents cannot make it to the library during the week with their children and this is a free activity that all can access on a Saturday morning.
The first Saturday Storytime was attended by 10 families, comprising 15 children between ages of 15 weeks and 10 years! Many of the families found out about this activity via our social media, or via our email distribution list, as well as by word of mouth or after seeing our posters in the library and local area. The majority of families were from the local M33 4 area of Sale, however 2 families came from the WA14 (Broadheath) area and one from Sale Moor and one family from Stretford (M32).
The second Saturday Storytime was even better attended with 13 families, comprising 21 children. Some families from the first one returned and some were new to Saturday Storytime.
The two initial Saturday Storytimes were so popular that we have decided to continue running them on the 1st and 3rd Saturday’s in the month. Each one has a different theme running through the stories and craft activity. This is being run by volunteers from the Friends of Coppice Library group.
